Job Description:
The selected candidate will be responsible for the improvement of manufacturing processes by conducting analyses of production operations throughout the assigned area(s), including capacity analysis and planning, capability studies, evaluations of the physical attributes of work centers, material flows and routings, planning and scheduling rules, resource planning, planned vs.
actual metrics analysis, and evaluation of new manufacturing technologies.
This role will communicate with management, production personnel, support staff, and vendors regarding procedures, purchases, product specifications, manufacturing capabilities, and project status.
Work assignments will be appropriate to the position/experience level.
Typical opportunities include the following:
Partner with Production Supervision/Management, sharing ownership for the performance of manufacturing processes in areas of assigned responsibility.
Participate in an Integrated Project Team (IPT) assigned to support manufacturing and resolve process related problems, including root cause analysis, using standard methods and/or A3 approach.
Develop / maintain Standard Work documentation, Standard Operating Procedures and methods that are based on Lean principles (product families, value streams, create flow, create pull, etc.
).
Define customer demand targets for processes and production areas; Help to meet those objectives.
Develop/maintain value stream maps, process diagrams, calculations, and other documentation.
Determine the cost drivers for manufacturing processes and revise processes to improve cost performance.
Define preferred sequence of operations to fabricate and assemble parts.
Determine/understand the capability, capacity and staffing requirements of processes/equipment in the plant to produce products to specifications, and at the rate necessary to meet the production schedule, and identify any discrepancies.
Analyze statistical data and product specifications to determine/maintain production standards.
Analyze material storage and handling facilities and methodologies to enable flow.
Provide supporting analysis to assist in determination of staffing requirements, labor utilization standards, and recommendations for appropriate staffing plans related to assigned areas.
Develop new production processes as necessary, developing and evaluating operational requirements, analyzing requirements, and developing specifications.
Lead efforts for transferring new products and/or technologies to Manufacturing in area of responsibility.
Drive continuous improvement in area of responsibility, leading front line data collection and analysis activities, and recommending product design for manufacturability (DFM) changes.
Develop recommendations for capital and non-capital improvements for increasing capability and ensuring guaranteed turnaround times, based on Return on Investment (ROI) analysis.
Provide feedback / coaching to associates on how to improve performance to meet customer demand.
Provide employees with technical direction and training for implementing change.
Facilitate improvement events with multi-departmental groups.
Required/Preferred Education/Training:
Lean Specialist I:
1- 4 years experience & Lean Six Sigma (LSS) Green Belt Certification Required.
Lean Specialist II:
5
years experience & Lean Six Sigma (LSS) Black Belt Certification Required.
Required/Preferred
Experience:
Experience in a manufacturing environment required.
Highly motivated, strong attention to detail, with proven ability to work both independently and in a team environment to drive desired results to completion.
Ability to organize, plan, and execute complex projects, including report writing and giving presentations.
Strong leadership skills (personnel, safety awareness, ethics, and innovation).
Strong demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to work multiple priorities simultaneously.
Experience with Continuous Process Improvement (CPI) or Operational Excellence transformations.
Demonstrated proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite of products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Experience with MS Access, VBA, Visio, Microsoft Project, and SharePoint a plus.
Ability to work and communicate cross functionally and with all levels of customers.
Strong team facilitation and conflict management skills.
Experience working with represented employees.
Available to travel occasionally as required for professional development, benchmarking and/or cross business collaboration.
