# Job Description
As a member of the GD Team, serve as the Subject Matter expert (SME) for auxiliary machinery and main propulsion systems related to the post delivery sustainment activities for LCS Class ships.
Coordinate distance support and technical reach back activities working with Navy and other contractor representatives
Coordinate deck plate support as needed to resolve operational issues and perform emergent repair work
Provide field engineering support and work with industrial contractors during maintenance and repair periods
Assemble Government Furnished Information (GFI) into packages suitable for use by Design in Ship Installation Design (SID) development
Interface with members of the LCS CLASSRON and Maritime Support Detachment (MSD) at the San Diego Naval Base to support LCS mission readiness and operational availability requirements.
Participate in potential fly away teams (FAT) as needed to address emergent shipboard problems for both Continental US (CONUS) and Outside Continental US (OCONUS) situations.
Brief shipcheck teams to ensure all applicable guidance is followed; accompany the design team on shipchecks, as required
Provide technical support for ship installation design (SID) development for engineering issues associated with assigned ShipAlts
Support Design in the resolution of waterfront engineering issues that may arise during ShipAlt installation
Develop ROM estimates for emergent design and engineering work
Lead special projects as assigned
# Required Education/Training
BS in Engineering required; mechanical/marine engineering preferred
# Experience
For Sr Engineer: 5 years minimum experience required, 10
years experience preferred with auxiliary machinery and main propulsion operations, equipment troubleshooting, and familiarity with equipment testing and design.
For Principal Engineer: 12 years minimum required, 15
years experience preferred with auxiliary machinery and main propulsion operations, equipment troubleshooting and familiarity with equipment testing and design.
Familiarity with LCS ship design & construction preferred
Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose system and equipment problems required
Familiarity with Navy technical community organization required
Familiarity with ship construction and overhaul specifications required (familiarity with NVR & ABS HSNC rules preferred)
Frequent travel potentially required to support emergent work including overseas
Must have the flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment under pressure of changing and often-conflicting priorities.
Ability to multi-task and executive simultaneous projects required
Strong research skills and the ability to pay attention to detail is required
Must be self motivated and have the ability to contribute in a team environment
Must be competent in MS Office products and generally PC savvy.
Strong oral and written communication skills required
Extensive experience with Installation Control Drawings, Technical Data Packages and other GFI is necessary
